Enjoy a 5 day holiday to Torquay staying at The Toorak Hotel
English Riviera and South Devon Explorer
13th 18th July
Always a top destination, Torquay, often referred to the Queen of the English Riviera is our base for our summer tour that explores both South and East Devon coastlines.
Whilst on tour, the following program includes;
Dartmouth
Dartmouth harbour has always been of strategic importance as a deep-water port for navy vessels. Amongst Dartmouth's winding Elizabethan streets you will discover independent shops, art galleries and a bustling market twice a week in the warmer months. Experience gourmet restaurants, bistros, bars and cosy cafés. You can shop until you drop and then settle into a bar to sample local ales or a cool glass of bubbly and the best crab sandwich money can buy (Dartmouth crab is widely regarded to be the best in the country). The narrow mouth of the Dart is protected by two fortified castles, Dartmouth Castle and Kingswear Castle (a castle at each end of the chain).
Dartmouth Steam Railway
The scenery on this picturesque line is breathtaking - from Paignton along the spectacular English Riviera Geopark coast line, through the picturesque stations at Goodrington and Churston (non-stopping), then on through the wooded slopes of Long Wood bordering the Dart Estuary to to Kingswear. A short foot passenger ferry (optional and free with your train ticket) takes you across the river Dart to the historic town of Dartmouth; home to the Britannia Royal Naval College, Bayards Cove, Butterwalk and Dartmouth Castle (England's first Castle to have guns as its main armament).
Paignton
One of the 3 towns that make up Torbay, a true classic seaside resort, enjoy a stroll along the pier or enjoy the sea front with its grassed area. Good selection of shops, many independents to explore and many cafes to enjoy a relaxing drink in.
Teignmouth
Teignmouth is famous for its beautiful seafront, relax and take in the magnificent views, or explore the town made famous for many independent retailers and cafes.
Newton Abbot
Newton Abbot is a picturesque market town located in the heart of Devon. It is known for its historic market race course, friendly community and gateway to Dartmoor. Many high street shops to discover along with a famous Devonshire market.
Dawlish
Perhaps most famous for its Black Swans, the small but compact seaside resort of Dawlish offers a wealth of things to see and do, including a beautiful sea front and gardens to sit and relax and see if you can spot one of the Black Swans.
Seaton & Seaton Tramway
We enjoy a return ride from the seaside town of Seaton, often referred to as the gateway to the Jurassic Coast along three miles of unspoilt countryside along the beautiful Axe Valley. The Seaton Tramway operates beautiful narrow gauge heritage trams between Seaton, Colyford and Colyton in East Devons glorious Axe Valley, travelling alongside the River Axe estuary through two nature reserves and giving an unrivalled view of the abundant wading bird life.
