An area which belies a turbulent past of romantic heroes, religious feuds and marauding outlaws. Our tour visits a feast of historical places from a romantic castle, to the oldest inhabited “keep” in Scotland finishing with the myths & legends of Rosslyn Chapel. This tour showcases the many small border town’s offerings and personality from tweed to whisky.

 

Whilst on tour the following program includes;

 

Thirlstane Castle

 

• Dating back to the 16th century, Thirlestane Castle is one of the oldest and finest inhabited castles in Scotland. Discover some of the finest decorative plasterwork ceilings in Europe, as well one of the most extensive family collections of portraits and busts in Scotland. Guests can enjoy a complimentary hot refreshment and a Scottish treat to complete the memorable experience.

 

Traquir House

 

• Visitors can take a tour through the house where there are 19 rooms open to the public. The house has an intimate family feel with the main rooms reflecting an eighteenth century décor. However, step through to the original tower and you can see the bed where Mary Queen of Scots slept and the original stair that became part of the secret escape route for Catholic priests in times of terror

• Visited by 27 Scottish Kings and Queens Traquair dates back to 1107 and has been lived in by the Stuart family since 1491.

• Originally a royal hunting lodge, Traquair played host to Mary Queen of Scots and later as staunch Catholics they supported the Jacobite cause without counting the cost. Today, they welcome visitors from all over the world. Enjoy the extraordinary history of this lived in family home.

• Visit the house, grounds, maze, craft workshops, 1745 Cottage Restaurant and the world famous Traquair House Brewery situated in one of the wings of the house and sample the ales in the brewery shop and museum.

 

Rosslyn Chapel

 

• Rosslyn Chapel was founded in 1446 by Sir William St Clair. The beauty of its setting, in rural Midlothian, the mysterious symbolism of its ornate stonework and its role in the Da Vinci Code have inspired, attracted and intrigued writers, artists and visitors ever since.

 

Peebles Hydro ****

 

The Peebles Hydro in Peebles is set amongst 30 acres of grounds and is an ideal indoor and outdoor resort located in the beautiful Scottish Borders.
