Enjoy the day at either Beamish Museum or at Durham
Beamish is a large open air museum with many historic buildings, some of which are not always completely accessible to visitors. It is a hands-on museum. Many sounds, smells, tastes and textures can be experienced; and objects, surfaces and textiles handles making for a multi-sensory experience. To create an authentic feel, there are a variety of ground surfaces, some of which are uneven by nature. There are steep slopes in places, and some buildings and exhibits have stepped access. Explore the 1900s Town and see how families lived and worked in the years leading up to the First World War. See whats cooking in the pit cottages, practise your handwriting in the school and visit the chapel. Dont forget to say hello to the pit ponies in their stables! No recreation of the history of North East England would be complete without a colliery and the people who worked and lived around it. Visit beautiful Pockerley Old Halls new and old houses and enjoy the magnificent gardens. Take a ride on Pockerley Waggonway and wander through the glorious Georgian landscape. All aboard! See this railway station as it looked in Edwardian times with its signal box, waiting rooms and goods yard and spot a variety of wagons on display. Beamish Tramway, opened in 1973, serves to re-create the experience and atmosphere of tramway operation from an earlier generation, whilst providing an essential means of transport for visitors around the site. Enjoy traditional tasty treats, from homemade hot meals to delicious snacks, cakes and drinks. Take home a unique reminder of your visit, shop Edwardian-style in The Town, or take a look in our Entrance Gift Shop.

BE ENCHANTED BY CHRISTMAS AT BEAMISH
Discover the amazing seasonal sights, sounds, smells and delicious tastes of Christmas past. Experience the magic of a traditional Christmas as you join in the celebrations at 1820s Pockerley Old Hall, 1900s Town, 1900s Pit Village and 1940s Farm. Visit Father Christmas and his magnificent reindeer and enjoy our Winter Fun Fair.
As with all daytime events, you can use your Unlimited Passes to enjoy Christmas at Beamish.
FATHER CHRISTMAS GROTTO
Meet Father Christmas in his cosy Grotto and say hello to his friendly reindeer at Pockerley Waggonway. £5 per child includes a small, traditional gift. Grotto tickets can be purchased at the Entrance on the day of your visit, on a first come, first served basis.
BEAMISH BAZAAR
Find some charming and quirky gifts at our outdoor bazaar in The Town park, take home some traditional trinkets, pretty presents and local festive food.

Ice Rink
Take to the ice on our real ice rink to perfect your skating skills!
Adult £5, child £4 for a 20 minute session. Tickets available from the Winter Fun Fair on the day.

The majority of trips return from destination between 16:30 and 17:30. The driver will inform you of the exact time on the day, dependant on outward travel times. Whilst we do not guarantee a W/C on board most of our excursion fleet do have toilet facilities. For your comfort we allocate seating at time of booking, however reserve the right to alter or amend your seat allocation for utilisation purposes.
